Voluma® is a dermal filler made by and is a registered trademark of Allergan. It is a hyaluronic acid based filler. Dr Josh will typically use Voluma to add volume to the midface and other areas as he sees fit given his experience in non-surgical facial aesthetics. As you begin to age, your face begins to lose volume. Cheeks hollow out and begin to appear sunken in, and the face changes face from a triangular shape to that which is more squared off appearance. Voluma may not be right for everyone, and this is something we will discuss during your consultation. Like other hyaluronic acid fillers, Voluma does not require allergy testing before use. When it comes to situations where more "filling" is needed, Dr Josh will often use Voluma as part of a comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation.
In Dr. Josh's office, located in Westchester County, New York, Voluma® will commonly be combined with fractionated laser treatments in order to help you achieve a more natural look. Many of these procedures are complimentary to each other, with the combination of fillers, lasers and products being the forefront of non-surgical rejuvenation. Like other hyaluronic fillers as well, Voluma® may contain trace amounts of Lidocaine anesthetic, so if there is a history of Lidocaine allergies, you should not be using this product. Please tell us in advance of any allergy issues.
One of the best features of Voluma® is that because it is less "hydrophilic", or "water-loving", there is less swelling. However, swelling may occur in certain individuals, and bruising is more likely if you are on aspirin or an NSAIDs, or Coumadin. Patients may experience some discomfort for a few days post-procedure. Most of these side effects include itching, tenderness, firmness and redness and will resolve over the week. Of course, a bruise may occur with any injection. After an initial treatment with Voluma®, we recommend that you should return to the office in 4 weeks to be examined, as more Voluma® may be needed. Temporary swelling and a nodule which can be felt under the skin may occur. Often, these will disappear on their own or with gentle massage. After your session is completed, there may be soreness for 4-5 days, and post-session instructions include makeup for 24 hours. In addition, other aspects of post-care will be discussed with you by Dr. Josh at the time of your appointment.
